Yoga Nidra: Basic Questions

What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation practice that bridges the awareness of our sleeping and waking consciousness into the continuum of our beingness. For a deeper understanding of this transformative practice, explore my detailed insights in 'Yoga Nidra: Interfacing The Continuum Of Your Consciousness'.

Why practice in a reclined posture?

Due to the nature of lying reclined, on your back, in corpse pose, the body is set up in such a posture that is akin to that of when we fall asleep. The intention is not to fall asleep, rather, to stay aware with a soft and gentle focus. As the practice unfolds, the body lingers on the edge of complete surrender and letting go (much as in the same way, to totally fall asleep, the body has to completely relax and let go).

This is the magical space of this practice!

Yoga Nidra invites the practitioner into a liminal space of neither being awake or asleep, neither alert or dreaming, rather the hover-point between the two.

As a result, the practice of Yoga Nidra invites the practitioner to bridge their awareness of these seemingly polarized ends of consciousness.

Thus, the practitioner gets to strengthen their own awareness of the continuous nature of their beingness.

Who is Yoga Nidra for?

Yoga Nidra is an incredible tool for resting and restoring your consciousness. This practice is deeply nourishing for anyone who feels frazzled, anxious, stressed, disconnected, overwhelmed, depleted… and for anyone who is looking to feel more connected, rejuvenated, enlivened, energized, rested, and restored.

A little background of my offerings of Yoga Nidra

I first began sharing my offering of Yoga Nidra in 2020 through Facebook which later emerged into a sweet collaborative practice of Yoga Nidra & Reiki over Zoom. In 2021 I offered my inaugural edition of my online course, Attuning Into You, where Yoga Nidra (among other guided practices) was an experiential part of the course.

Now, I’m excited to have the opportunity to share in this practice together in person!

There is something unmistakably rich about the present moment that allows for the dynamism of the co-creative gathering to unfold. Truly, no two events are alike. Each event is unique to the energy of the individuals present, creating a highly unique experience for that exact moment in time.

What others have shared…

“I attended Yoga Nidra and loved it. I found myself able to feel and be more with my physical anatomy in a still, but awake way. Gliding between my awareness deeping, and an almost sleep-like state. It was there I began to feel the perception of my body shifting.”

-Joseph A.

“Enveloped by her words, my conscious mind gracefully relinquished its grasp, surrendering to a realm defying linguistic depiction. If I were to attempt to paint a palpable picture for you, I would liken it to a symphony of goosebumps cascading from head to toe- an electrifying sensation that stirred tears, binding me harmoniously with the Earth’s embrace.”

-Sina S.

“It was a very intimate and safe space to heal what I am experiencing mentally, emotionally and physically throughout my body. I really enjoyed connecting with my body, my breath and calming my mind down. I did not realize how fast my thoughts race and how little I actually take the time to make space to breathe and slow down. I realized in slowing down my thoughts, clarity arised and some solutions were presented for me to move forward in my healing journey.”

-Janna R.

“Dr. Alandi’s guided Yoga Nidra meditation opened my eyes to deeper functionings of consciousness and the ties between the yin and yang of the resting and waking states. I felt a level of relaxation I had not felt in other meditations, and came out of it feeling centered and rejuvenated.”

-John D.

“For me, it felt like the moment right before you fall asleep, but I stayed there for almost the entire time. I felt like I was very grounded in my body, but my mind was also very separate and out of my body and floaty feeling.”

-Jen G.

“Dr. Alandi has a sweet, gentle and intuitive nature about her. She leads a wonderful Yoga Nidra class that is both self nurturing as well as an opportunity to go deeper into our being at a soul level.”

-Allison
